Annual thinking is too short for a venture — year one of anything real looks unimpressive, and judging it annually invites premature surrender. Ten-year thinking is too long — the fifty-plus builder rightly refuses vague decades. The working horizon is a thousand days.
A thousand days — roughly three years — is enough to: test honestly, find the real offer, build rhythm, and compound into visible results. The consultant reaches steady retainers. The teacher's course finds its audience. The builder's business runs without daily heroics. Almost nothing meaningful happens in one hundred days; almost everything meaningful shows by a thousand.
Write the day-1,000 picture in plain sentences: revenue, week-shape, team, what your Tuesday looks like. Then walk backwards — day 500, day 100, next Monday. The picture pulls; the milestones steer; the Mondays build.
You have perhaps eight or ten thousand-day blocks left of full energy. That's not morbid — that's clarifying. Spend this one on purpose.
