The First 90 Days of Clarity

People imagine clarity arrives as a lightning bolt. In practice it arrives as paperwork — pleasant, surprisingly emotional paperwork. The people who find their direction do roughly the same things in their first ninety days, in roughly the same order.

First month: the honest audit. Money on one page — what you own, owe, spend and can safely invest. Energy on one page — what work fills you, what drains you. Pull on one page — what you find yourself reading, advising on, returning to. Most people have never seen these three pages together. Seeing them together is the lightning bolt.

Second month: directions, plural. Three written possibilities, each pressure-tested against the audit: Does it fit the money? The energy? The pull? Ruthlessly kill the ones that only look good at a dinner party. Third month: one direction chosen and one small, real test — ten conversations, one landing page, one pilot client. Reality's feedback beats a year of thinking.
