Find Your Two Golden Hours

Every day contains a small window when your best work is almost free. Locate it, then defend it.

Ask yourself when you last did your finest thinking. Almost nobody answers '4 p.m., between meetings.' For most people there is a daily window — often early morning — when concentration is cheap and the work flows. Two hours there outproduce five hours elsewhere.

Finding yours takes a week of noticing: when did time disappear? When did you re-read the same paragraph four times? Builders over fifty usually discover their window has moved earlier over the years — fighting that is vanity; using it is strategy.

Then the defence, which is the actual discipline: the window gets the venture's hardest single task — building, writing, pricing, the difficult call. Not email. Never email. Email is the tax the whole world levies on your golden hours if you let it in first.

Protect two golden hours daily and the venture moves weekly. Lose them daily and you'll work twice the hours to stand still.

Take with you
Everyone has a daily high-concentration window — find yours by noticing for a week.
The window likely moved earlier with age; use that, don't fight it.
Golden hours get the hardest single task — never email.
2 defended hours daily > 5 scattered ones.
